Replanting Coffee Farms

The SAFAI Foundation started as a commitment to replant 30 coffee farms around Central and South America. Ravaged by a troubling fungal disease commonly known as “rust”, these farms are owned by local farmers who are responsible for some of the world’s best tasting coffee. Since the Foundation’s start in 2013, we have successfully replanted 30 farms, thus restoring these farmer’s primary source of income and providing much needed work for laborers in the form of harvest, production and transportation. An Arabica coffee shrub takes 3 years before it will produce it’s first yield. By helping the farmer’s replant their farms and supplementing their income during this 3 year time span, the families are able to stay on their land.

COMSA School Cafeteria

COMSA is an International School that focuses on multilingual studies and healthy, happy lifestyles. One of the biggest hurdles to the student’s success is a lack of reliable, daily meals. Many of the families simply cannot afford to send food to school with their children and the school has limited resources to provide enough food for all the growing students. Our Foundation aims to change that through your help.

The COMSA Organization, which is already a leader in regional organic growing methods, will use their surrounding school grounds to grow organic fruits and vegetables to directly educate and feed their students with healthy, high quality foods. Let’s help give them a safe space to feed their students.

COMSA and City of Marcala Waste Management Program

By partnering with Shabbir Adam Ali, The COMSA Organization is seeking financial help to institute a 100% Zero Waste Recycling System. The city of Marcala currently has no sanitation services so waste and recyclable materials are simply left in the streets and river ways.

With an initial cost investment for the equipment, this recycling program can be instituted and begin operating within a few months. By helping the environment, we can also help create jobs and economic opportunities.

Ambulance for The Simon Conteras Medical Center

A basic necessity to those in need of trauma care, the hospital is currently operating without a medically outfitted ambulance. Not 0nly is the region mountainous and hard to transverse, but the access to personal, reliable transportation to get patients to the hospital is not available. By fully outfitting an ambulance with all the necessary life-saving equipment, the Hospital can now provide emergency trauma care to an area that serves over 90,000 residents in remote areas.

Total Cost for Ambulance: $20,000

La Rivera/San Pedro Sulo Economic Stimulus Program

Healthy families are happy families. That is why in the fall of 2016, the SAFAI Foundation helped to expand emergency room and hospital capabilities of The Simon Conteras Hospital in Marcala, Honduras. We partnered with Royal Coffee of New York and Guest Supply, and the help of Supplies Over Seas to stock it’s new shelves with much needed basic medical supplies along with large scale items such as multiple hospital beds and an x-ray machine. This is the only hospital serving a community of over 90,000 people. We need your continued help to provide this hospital with basic medical supplies.

Logan Street Market

Centrally located at the corner of Logan & Kentucky Streets, the Logan Street Market will house everything from bakers to brewers, cooking to culture. What was a food desert will now become a food haven and community space. The neighborhoods of Shelby Park, Smoketown, Old Louisville, German-Paristown and Schnitzelburg will now be minutes away, by foot, bike or bus, from a year round source of fresh and affordable food. Over 25,000 square feet will be dedicated to food, produce and retail stalls, a community and event stage, a beer garden, a children’s play area, a cooking stage and mezzanine seating to overlook all the action! The blueprints are drawn and the build-out will begin soon!

The Logan Street Market will be a gathering place for friends, family and neighbors from across the city. Our vision is to be an all-inclusive space for community events, a source of fresh and healthy foods to an underserved area and a conscientious steward of the neighborhood and the environment. By building connections between farmers, merchants and community members, the Logan Street Market will strive to be a lively and diverse place for learning, sharing and growing together!
